It's important to keep your nebulizer parts clean and free of germs. Be sure to follow the cleaning, disinfection, and storage instructions that came with your nebulizer. In the meantime, here are some general suggestions on cleaning a nebulizer.
- After each use, rinse the nebulizer cup with warm water and let air-dry.
- After your last treatment of the day, wash the mouthpiece or face mask in warm, soapy water. Rinse well and let air-dry.
- Every few days, disinfect the nebulizer cup and the mouthpiece or face mask. Rinse well and let air-dry.
- Keep an extra nebulizer cup and mouthpiece or face mask handy in case you need them.
- Replace the nebulizer cup, mouthpiece or face mask, and tubing as often as directed by the manufacturer.
Caring for your nebulizer's compressor
Follow instructions that came with your compressor (the powered pump part of the nebulizer). Here are some suggestions:
- Wipe the compressor with a clean, damp cloth as needed.
- Cover it with a clean, dry cloth.
- Do not put the compressor on the floor while using or storing it.
- Replace or clean the compressor filter as directed by the manufacturer.
- Never put the compressor in water.
- Turn the compressor off when not in use.
